Working From Home
Since the coronavirus hit in March of 2020, most all of our existing clients transitioned smoothly to working from home. They were able to make the transition because they were already setup with cloud-based systems and software, like Exchange Online for Email, SharePoint Online for file sharing, and Teams for online communication and collaboration. Working from home brings it’s own challenges, but computer systems, communications, and collaboration doesn’t have to be one of them. SyncraTec has been operating virtually since it’s inception in 2004. Our network setup and computer applications are optimized for security as well as productivity.
Transition to the Cloud
While working in the office has been and will continue to be the traditional approach for most small and medium-sized businesses, working from home is no longer a luxury but a necessity. A Cloud-Based Network
Traditionally, many small and medium-sized businesses had at least one server. One of SyncraTec’s earliest product-service offerings was Windows Small Business Server 2003. We were Microsoft Certified Small Business Specialists, and that’s what Microsoft was promoting back then. Even then, Microsoft’s Small Business Server 2003 enabled remote work through a remote web workplace, that allowed remote (working from home) users to connect to the office server and access the files and applications they needed. The server also had Exchange for enterprise class email with technology such as Active Sync, which enabled our mobile devices of the day to sync with the Exchange server so that we could get our email on the go.
Flash forward to 2020 and the coronavirus pandemic, and many businesses are in need of the flexibility to work in or out of the office, or practically anywhere with an internet connection. So now that whole IT network with it’s traditional Local Area Network perimeter has been turned on it’s head. How do you secure your email and data when everyone is working here, there, and everywhere? The answer is to rely on technology that has evolved over the years to server a mobile workforce. As part of our base offering for the SyncraTec Network Assurance Plan, we recommend Microsoft 365 Business Premium. In addition to the familiar Microsoft Office applications, you’re going to get Azure Active Directory, which is where the cloud-based serverless network begins.
In traditional Windows Servers deployed for local area networks (LANs), we had Active Directory (AD). Everyone logging-in to your network had to be authenticated by the directory, which kept track of users and computers belonging to the network. Now, with Azure Active Directory, we have the tools to authenticate users no matter where they are working, to ensure that users are who they say they are, and so that they can only access the applications and data that you authorize, and so that they can’t copy or otherwise save-off you company data to unauthorized devices. If anything happened with the device or the user, we can ensure that your data stays safe by selectively wiping just your business data from any device.
